My great iPhone fail

About a year ago, I was faced with a difficult decision. It was the time of year that all cell phone owners look forward to and dread all at the same time… UPGRADE!

As I stood there basking in the glow of an entire store worth of possibilities, my head kept one very constant debate circling… to iPhone or not to iPhone, that seriously was the question. On the plus side of my debate was the fact that all my friends had one (and yes if they all jumped off a bridge, I would too, why wouldn’t I?) and I had seen all the cool things they could do. But that nagging non-fad chasing part of me kept telling me that the iPhone was not as cool as everyone said it was… I mean come on, it can’t even send MMS, what kind of phone can’t send pictures…lame.

So because I am not easily swayed by the mainstream, and because I liked sending picture messages, I went with the LG Incite which came complete with a touch screen and Window Mobile. A big selling point at the time of purchase was that it also came with Window Office and with my being big shot CEO at the time, I could be a big shot CEO with access to my Word docs anytime!

Now lets not get this twisted.. I do like my Incite, it has been a very reliable phone and as far at things go, when I used it in public it got a lot of looks, but… good looks don’t add up to all the things I am missing out on by not owning Apple’s golden phone.

Take for instance, all the wonderful apps that people are using to tweet… I can not for the life of me find an app that works for Windows Mobile that actually makes tweeting from my phone user friendly. Score one for Apple. And how about what finally put the nail in the coffin of my trusty mobile is the fact that now ustream had teamed up with the iPhone to allow live broadcasts. That really would add a brand new wrinkle to my Rodcasting gig as well as allow me to ditch the getup!

So I guess what I am driving at here is that I really should have thought a little more about the potential folly of not choosing what is hands down the biggest breakthrough in cell phone technology because of my pride in not jumping onto what I consider “faddish” behavior. Learn from my mistake and by all means take my wisdom to heart so that you may not have to suffer what I have…(pause for dramatic flair)

In the end though lesson learned! And Santa if you are a frequenter of this blog… I have tried to be a good boy this year, and if you bring me one gift in my stocking, let it be an iPhone…just saying.
