8 Mins on the clock please

A radio DJ brought up a very interesting topic the other day. He asked the question, “if you knew you had 8 minutes to live, would you be satisfied with your life?”

Make’s you think right? As always, when I hear these types of things, I stopped to take my own assessment. I came to the conclusion that while there are many things I have yet to do with my life, I am fairly certain that I would be satisfied with my life. Also in my fashion, I picked a few things that I am most proud of thus far into my life.

The first would be my family. I moved back to California so that I would have the chance to see my them as much as I wanted. I ended up doing that with the added bonus of starting my own. Despite our struggles, my family is amazing and one of the main reasons I can enjoy being who I am today.

Second of course to my family are my friends. Over the course of 10 years in the Army, I managed to meet a TON of awesome people, and with the help of Facebook, I get to “hang out” with them all over again. I have also met some incredible people since I moved back home and am in awe everyday of the amount of support I get from them on a daily basis.

Last but not least is my legacy. Everyone hopes, even if it is secretly, to leave an impact on the world when they leave. It has always been my biggest fear to not be remembered after I pass, but I feel like I am a part of something that I will be proud to be remembered for in Podcast Stockton. I want my kids to know that their father was proud of his city and took the time to do something about its image rather than just complaining about it, or even worse, buying into it and doing nothing.

What about you? Is there something you have been meaning to get around to doing, but have just been making excuses instead of making it happen? I think it is important to live life happy and fulfilled, regardless of what your hangups may be.

We all go through tough times and situations we think we may never live through; most of the time we do. All in all we, including myself, need to learn how to take better advantage of the good things that come our way and opportunities to advance our biggest goals. Don’t let your last moments in life be lived out in regret.

Your 8 minutes are on the clock…what are you going to do with them?

Well said, Rod. With 8 minutes on the clock, I am reminded of the quote, “When you look back on your life, you’ll regret the things you didn’t do more than the ones you did.” H. Jackson Brown, Jr

Very true Matt. I have never heard anyone say, “I wish I would have worked more”, or, “if only I would have spent more time in the office.” I never have to remind myself that life is a gift, and I know for a fact you don’t either!

  3. Unfortunately, my answer would be i have yet to be satisfied with my life. Too many unaccomplished things. I still need to graduate from Academy of Art University, I still need to become somewhat known in the art world and produce pieces that sell, my podcast need to be more infamous, and my wife and I need to have at least one child. Is that too much to ask for? lol

I know how you feel Gabriel, I was there a few years ago. I felt like I had not done much of anything I wanted to do with my life and it seemed like I was never going to get there. And even though I am not completely there yet, I still feel like I can be satisfied that I have stayed the course and continued to work towards my goals. It’s never too much to ask for success, professional or personal. You are talented and hardworking and I see big things for you in the very near future! (As I take my Miss Cleo hat off)
